The ASLAV (Australian Light Armoured Vehicle) is an eight wheeled armoured fighting vehicle. It is capable of either four or eight wheel drive and provides exceptional mobility across a wide variety of terrain.

The ASLAV is fully amphibious, not only capable on land it can be driven in the water by shrouded propellers at the rear of the vehicle. Equipped with its thermal imaging, gun sights and night vision systems, it is as effective during night operations as daytime.

SEA 1000 is the Collins Class submarine replacement program managed by the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO). The SEA 1000 program will find replacements for the six Collins Class submarines currently in service. The Collins Class submarines are due to retire from service from 2025 onwards.

The Collins Class replacement submarine will likely displace around 4,500 tonnes. It will be capable of a range of missions including land missile attack, anti-ship, surveillance. The submarine will also play an important role in special operations by inserting and extracting commandos and other covert operators.

 

Australia's Defence Force chief (CDF) has weighed into the debate surrounding the Australian Navy's Collins Class submarine replacement stating that there is no strategic need to build the submarine locally. Air Chief Marshal Binskin said on Tuesday that it was more important to the nation that the new submarines be maintained by local industry and that this didn't mean the subs had to be built in Australia.

The Australian Army will be featured more prominently than ever before at Avalon Airshow 24 Feb - 1 March 2015. Army News has reported that an Australian Defence Force "showcase" will include Army land vehicles and weapons such as M1A1 Abrams main battle tank, ASLAV, M113 armoured personnel carrier and M777 Howitzer. Two of the newest Army helicopters will also be on show; the ARH Tiger and the MRH-90.

The ARH Tiger and MRH-90 will perform a flying display simulating and infiltration and resupply mission. Army News reports that the entire ADF showcase will go for 1 hour and will include air-to-air combat, attack and extraction sequence, airborne assault scenario from a C-130. There will be ground attack display and the AP-3C Orion will simulate a submarine kill. The C17 will demonstrate it's lift capability by landing two bushmasters and troops.

It all looks like an action packed showcase for the ADF at this year's Avalon 2015.

A newer M1A3 is also under development. The M1A1/2 Abrams main battle tank is manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS).
