A couple of days ago Russia surprised many analysts with a snap announcement that it had achieved its military objectives in Syria and was pulling out the majority of its forces. Intelligence stakeholders are yet to confirm any major troop movements and it remains to be seen if the announced draw down will actually occur.

The past week saw Prime Minister Turnbull rack up plenty of frequent flyer miles on his United States focused world tour. Starting with a visit to Iraq the Prime Minister then spend time in Afghanistan before moving onto to Washington and, finally Hawaii.

On the 13th of November this year the Federal Government released its RFI for 450 tracked infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) which will replace the aging M113 fleet currently in use. The new vehicles will meet the evolved mounted close combat requirements of the Australian Army into the future.
